Demonstrate an ability to: Tie a slippery reef knot, Tie a rolling hitch, Tie a round turn and two half hitches, Whip the end of a line, Tuck an eye splice.
Be able to name and tell the function of the entire running rigging aboard your vessel.
Describe the precautions to be taken aboard your vessel in the event of heavy weather.
Demonstrate the ability to con the vessel through basic sail maneuvers.
Demonstrate a familiarity with the responsibilities between vessels in sight of one another according to the Rules of the Road.
Explain the significance of reefing and be able to reef (with a little help) all the sails aboard your vessel. Why is it better to reef earlier than later?
Supervise the launching of the ship’s boat and demonstrate an ability to operate and handle the boat safely.
