Demonstrate the ability to plot dead reckoning (DR) positions and fixes by LOP (line of position).
Determine compass error on a given heading using variation, as indicated on the chart, and deviation from the ship’s deviation card. Explain the deviation card.
Plot a course on the chart and indicate the proper compass headings in either magnetic or true, depending on which is appropriate for your ship’s compass.
Learn to use the tide and current tables and demonstrate an ability to determine the water s depth and the set and drift of the current in a given location and at a specific time on your day’s run.
Understand how to determine by use of a compass bearing whether a vessel at anchor is dragging.
